Gaslight

Starting a project where you are asked to re-create something unique, from the past and which is now no longer in existence is totally exciting.

The presented challenge was to remake the pendant worn by Ingrid Bergman in the movie Gaslight. We had a handful of images from the movie to start our research.  So many details in the pendant were impossible to see, even with a magnifier. To begin the design process, I turned to my collection of historical jewelry books and of course to the wide world web.

Looking for the details to fill in the blanks, or should I say fuzzy parts, was easier said then done. Many of my books contained jewelry images from the Victorian time period, offering design details and popular styles. However I could find very little information on fabrication methods. I decided that if I could not draw it then I could not make it. SO I focused my energies on finding actual Victorian pendants and studying them one by one until I found the details we believed our pendant shared.

Here are some of the images I discovered after pouring over hundreds of Victorian jewelry images on the internet.

Enameled or engraved leaves?

I am determined that I will find an image that will show me the details that I need to know in order to make this piece come alive.
